NI video ‘Introducing Eden - VIII’ – on Leaf Arranging & Functionality, Managing/Installing/Launching Apps
NotionInkFan(Greg)’s video ‘Eden Application Switcher (Select Panel)’: “This video demonstrates the behavior of short and long presses of the home button on the Notion Ink Adam; comparing its use for the applicaiton switcher in Eden and the default action in the Android home screen. Remember that a long press is 2-3 seconds, so be patient as the application switcher is launched.”
ANSWERED
What are panels?
Eden consists of panels (also known as "Leaves") or Light Application instances. At any instant, one can work on infinite applications. There are 3 panels at your disposal and you can switch at any time. Irrespective of how many applications you run in the panels, the main application is in deep sleep mode. Panels are "placeholders" for light-weight feature-limited versions of the application, when actually the application is sleeping. This is a new way of multitasking. Every application comes with a full mode (with complete functionality) and a panel implementation (functionality limited).
Applications, panels, and full screen mode – an NI explanatory diagram
ADAM’s display shows three adjacent panels at a time, a sub-set of all the currently open panels
What are the different states an application can possibly be in?
How do we switch the panel-switching view and from the 3-panel view to the full application view?
From the panel switching view, a tap on one leaf (panel) shows it in a 3-panel view with its two neigbours.
From the 3-panel view
tap on one leaf to select it
Menu button offer a choice: Close panel (kill the app) or Open full screen
This is how the home Panel System looks – right now this is in the panel selection mode where you can switch the panels (click to enlarge)
UNANSWERED
Is the 3-panel view customizable?
Yes. But How?
Can the 3-panel view be changed to a 2-panel view for special use-cases? Can Applications have a 2/3rd or 2-panel implementation?
From an official blog post by Rohan, "The composition is really very dynamic, and one application is not restricted to only 1 panel, one can open another and so on," which might mean to say that applications can request 2-panel access.
