Note: A number of users have had the ability to charge their ADAMs fail. (Mine was one that no longer charged or operated while on batteries. I modified the charging circuitry and can now use mine again.)
On the Horizon
At Mobile World Congress Nvidia presented their roadmap...
Check it out

Asus Transformer Prime is shipping with the Tegra 3 processor which is really five cores.
Specs as announced:

The ASUS Transformer Prime only has 1280 X 800 video.
Photo of the Tegra 3 FIVE processor quad core chip...

So you want to order an ADAM??? (You'll need to wait to see if any more will be made.)
Here's what transpired when I bought one from the PO1 event on Dec 9, 2010...
Of course your mileage may vary...
Placed order on Dec 9 at 20:00 once orders were opened to everyone.
(I never received any email letting me know when orders were opened even though NI promised that bloggers to Rohan's blog would receive an invite)
Meanwhile Greg over at Notion Ink Fan orders his on Dec 9 at 18:00 give or take and got his ADAM In Jan.
Everyone who ordered would receive an email from both NI and CCavenue confirming the order.
I never received any emails. However according to the NI order status page...
Order Confirmation NIOXXXXXXX - shipping date estimated - Jan 6, 2011
Oops, There was a problem with the shipping computer and that date should not have been issued.
New tentative shipping date Jan 9, 2011
Came and went. NONE of the ADAMs shipped on the ninth and no one was updated until after the 10th.
Since nothing got shipped NI changed the estimated shipping dates to Jan 15-22, 2011.
Jan 19th ADAMs actually started shipping. FCC approvals were not posted until Jan 28th.
On Jan 25th another announcement from NI, shipping would be on or before Feb 14th.
On Feb 15th I received the first emails EVER from NI telling me that my ADAM was on its way.
Shortly after that the web site showed that my ADAM had shipped. They instructed me to check back in 3-5 days for shipping info.
44 days later and still no shipping info.
On March 2, 2011 NI emails me that Chinese Customs is holding up the shipment. The issue
was resolved and I should be hearing from the shipping company shortly.
In the mean time folks that ordered in Feb 2011 are receiving theirs.
NI had the FULL purchase price since mid December and I all have are a bunch of delays.
March 12th another email saying Chinese customs held up my delivery. AGAIN
But not to fret as the tracking company will contact me with shipping information.
NI is so screwed up I contacted American Express and informed them that I had not received my order.
March 14th another email telling me the logistics folks will issue me a tracking number "soon".
TEN days later and still no tracking number or update. At least I'm getting emails from NI as answers to the ones I am sending them.
March 19th - Folks from PO2 are being asked to "downgrade" their orders due to "unforeseen circumstances" with the PQ 3G models.
Fortunately I didn't get one of these messages. Then again my ADAM has been shipped for over 37 days.
March 25th - NI replies to my latest email stating that I'd have a tracking number "tonight".
Three guesses and the first two don't count.
March 27th - NI tells me a tracking number. No word from TNT. Anyway it appears that my ADAM is cooling its heels in Hong Kong.
March 30th - I'm at home sick and ADAM apparently was delivered to my office.
March 31st - Cesar Chavez holiday so the office is closed.
April 1st. I'm at work and NONE of the receiving staff is around so no one knows where my ADAM is.
With luck like mine who needs enemies?
APRIL 1st and no April Fools... I have my ADAM with a 21 Mar 2011 build date
NIP920210311
Bought a Targus neoprene slip case from Radio Shack for $10 to protect ADAM. On July 7, 2011, ADAM accidentally got knocked off my desk at work while inside the case. ADAM was off at the time and not sleeping. The case and ADAM landed flat on a carpeted floor and now ADAM no longer operates off the internal batteries. I asked NI to ship me a replacement charging circuit board so I can perform the repair myself. Others that have used Tactus Labs in Texas seem to have their ADAMs vanish for months at a time. Instead of waiting without ADAM at least I can still use mine when plugged in while waiting for the replacement. At first it appeared that NI would just send me a replacement charging circuit board. Now they want me to send ADAM back.
Since this isn't a "warranty" issue and they haven't answered my requests for repair costs, I've refused to send it back. You can buy "better" tablets on the market for less than what NI may charge for the repair.
(Plus I won't have to endure more waiting. It seems the average repair turn around for NI is "months". According to one posting I saw, NI wants $70 to repair the batteries)
So I bought ADAM in Dec 2010, got it in April 2011 and can no longer use it portable in July. That works out to more than $100 a month for limited enjoyment.
UPDATE: I took a chance and modified the charging circuit on my Adam, and it now works from batteries again. It also charges correctly. I installed a jumper wire
between the B+ and P+ pads on the circuit board. Everything appears to be operating normally. Batteries take a charge and don't get warm on either charge or discharge.
P.S.
According to email NI sent one customer they are using another carrier for Germany and Russia. That makes four
different vendors to track. In addition once the package reaches the US, it may be delivered by UPS, FED-Ex, or TNT.
(Not sure about any DHL deliveries)
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH...
Here are some tidbits of Rohan's postings on Wordpress demonstrating differences between what he says and reality.
(Something akin to the Apple Reality Distortion Field)
April 3, 2010 (19th post)
As soon as the stable Flash is there, there will be two months of testing and we will hit the stores.
Not even close. Shipped ADAMs don't even have Flash installed. You need to search for a compatible version.
June 9 2010 (22nd post)
Another update is that we have evaluated another platform, which is proving to be extremely efficient on battery and much cheaper as well.
So now you might be able to choose among the HW platforms as well (but here is a might in this line).
What happened to this "other" hardware version?
we are talking about at least a business of 100k devices a month.
Really?
Aug 12, 2010 (33rd post)
The product will shoot for FCC certifications in the second week of November.
FCC approval wasn't posted to the FCC site until January 28, 2011!
Sept 14, 2010 (37th post)
The best news: according to new schedule we will hit for FCC certifications a week earlier than scheduled and over all the project is running 7 days ahead of its schedule.
See previous comment.
Sept 18, 2010 (38th post)
This cylindrical section solved more purposes like placing traditional 3 cell batteries (and make it easily replaceable)
Based on interior photos it looks like replacing the batteries will be beyond most folks' abilities.
In addition a number of people have postulated that the batteries shipped are no where near the ratings
posted on the NI web site. According to this email I received the batteries are no longer considered to be "user Replaceable."
Jul 27, 2011
Hello James,
Greetings from Notion Ink Support. I am Michelle.
I can understand that you are experiencing issue with battery of Adam
and want to replace it by yourself.
I'm sorry to inform you that it is not possible to replace the battery
by yourself. We do not recommend to replace any parts in the Adam by
the end user as it will void the Warranty of the unit. If you want
then we can replace the battery of Adam for you. Please let us know
how you wish to proceed.
I'll wait for your reply.
Regards,
Michelle

You will find that there are 2 parts in this product (one is this mesh plate) that you can customize with your choice of color!
At the bottom you will find the device casing which holds the track-pad as well.
What happened to the color choices? What happened to the track-pad on the "back"?
Sept 28, 2010 (40th post)
Survey of color choices.
Initial run of ADAM's is in the third least popular color. Black and white.
Oct 12, 2010 (44th post)
Those who love Macro Photography like me, would love to know that the closest you can go to objects is 3cm!
I measured how close my ADAM can focus and it is indeed 3CM.
A number of users have complained at the lack of quality of the camera.
There is a protective shipping cover attached and once removed the camera takes okay photos.
Some users reported having more than one cover slip affixed. Mine had two. Even after removing the plastic, photos taken with the ADAM look more like a painter's painting of what ever you are trying to photograph. No where near what a 3.2 MPixel camera should be capable of.
Oct 15, 2010 (45th post)
Logo design contest.
Winner gets $1,000 and first Adam as well!
Pratik should be receiving his ADAM soon. Never heard whether he received it or the cash.
Oct 24, 2010 (49th post)
I am getting from more than 2 full days to minimum of 15 hours (on average which will some idle time as well) !
I am thinking of posting an interactive chart where you all can fill in details of how you will use it and then get the usage value out!
So where is this "chart"? A number of folks claim that they are getting four or less hours out of a charge.
I can leave mine on all day with both GPS and WiFi active. It is "sleeping" most of the time. Using it for reading and some light web browsing or playing games I've gotten over 14hrs of "use".
As an experiment, I charged ADAM overnight on Sun and just using Kindle to read books in PQ mode while commuting, I've gone all week without charging and the battery still shows over 45% charge. (Read Treasure Island and part way through War of the Worlds.)
I installed a 3G SIM card, but do not have 3g service configured. I have 3g turned off in the settings too.
I have an Android phone, which needs to be charged EVERY night otherwise it will go dead during the day. Android is "always" taking to something
eating up the battery.
For another experiment, I charged up ADAM overnight, removed it from the charger and didn't turn it on. After 31 hours it was still fully charged.
Others have reported losing battery capacity even when off.

Voting has been closed and you have selected your winner! Notion Ink will go with you choice.
Notion Ink will get in touch with all the top 10, because we have something special for all of them!
What was the gift?

FCC: We are on time for this and you could hold devices in your hands on or before Christmas
(and as hinted earlier, if we miss Christmas, then CES or New Year).
Pre-booking will start in early December (if the case id prior). Already received FCC for the chargers!
FCC approval wasn't posted to the FCC site until Jan 28th 2011!
Pre-orders did make Dec 9th.
Units didn't start shipping until mid January 2011.
Nov 6, 2010 (54th post)
Now comes the logo part. The winner is the logo Number 9
All 43 entries will enjoy a steep discount, so keep an eye on your mail box.
Did they? (Based on Blog comments I don't believe so)
Nov 13, 2010 (post 56)
The top portion is where you will find your Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS antennas.
Depends on how you define "top". Based on the tear down photos,
the GPS antenna is located near the bottom left when held in portrait mode. (Near the four "buttons" on the ADAM screen)
The wi-fi and 3g antennas are located in the bottom edge near the microphone opening when held in landscape mode.
The GPS antenna is BEHIND the LCD panel. It's not along one of the plastic edges.
Using the GPS Test software (which needs to be downloaded from Majjj's site) the signal
strength of the SirF chip changes dramatically based on how you hold ADAM. If you hold it
flat facing the screen the satellite signals will hover around 10 to 30 dB. Lift the ADAM up over your head
so that the back is facing the sky and the signals will jump to 30 to 50 dB.
In addition a number of users are reporting that the WiFi antenna leaves a lot to be desired. ADAM has to be close
to any hot spot to be able to connect. Holding the ADAM with one hand by the microphone hole sometimes increases the receive signal strength.
Nov 20, 2010 (57th post)
(no reflection property of matt and scratch resistant property of glossy surface).
Shiny glass is NOT MATTE no matter how you "spin" it.
Dec 4, 2010 (post 60)
The pre-booking will be available only for the ones who have posted a comment on this blog (for a limited period of time).
I posted on the blog before the "cutoff" date and never received any email.
I even asked my email forwarder if they "canned" any NI emails.
They didn't.
Nothing in my SPAM folder.
No emails.
Dec 9, 2010 (post 62)
As promised, the first access would be given to those who had commented in this blog “before the last post”.
To carry out this, all selected will be sent a confirmation email and pre-order link which will remain active for 6 hours
from the receipt of that email (keep a tight view on your mail box including your spam filter!)
Pre-booking for them will start at 10 December 00:00 AM IST.
After 6 hours, it will be open to everyone (which would be 06:00 AM IST)!
Let’s take a look at the image on the left.
Default Adam comes in Matte Black Color with white strip, but this strip is replaceable.
Starting Mid-Jan our partners will start shipping different colored strips and you can customize according to your own preference!
Our shipping partner is DHL
Didn't get any email
Order times never materialized any where close to the stated times
I haven't seen anything anywhere about getting colored strips. (Tactus Labs is working on graphite replacement stickers)
All the shipments appears to be with TNT not DHL.
According to email NI sent one customer they are using another carrier for Germany and Russia. That makes four
different vendors to track. In addition once the package reaches the US, it may be delivered by UPS, FED-Ex, or TNT.
Dec 10, 2010 (post 64)
Officially we were told that it will not take more than 2 weeks, but now they need 3 more weeks for the same.
Visa and other integrations took us 3 days.
FCC: We shared the information that it is expected in early 20s.
Even if it gets delayed, it will be in December, and this is specifically the reason why first Adam will only be shipped on 6th January.
Folks using Mastercard were frozen out.
There was a quick retraction on the Jan 6th date and it changed to Jan 9th.
FCC application didn't show on the FCC web site until Jan 28th!
I don't believe any ADAMs shipped until after Jan 19th.
Dec 11, 2010 (post 65)
My next goal is to make Notion Ink best in its customer relations and whole of my energy will go into making this happen.
Sorry, not happening.
Comment based on the anger being exhibited on the blog and other forums.
Jan 12, 2011 (post 84)
Adam has already reached some of its owners.
Not one photo, or comment, or "official" review to confirm that ADAMs had reached their owners.
Jan 15, 2011 (post 85)
Adam comes with 2 layers of Matte Surfaces, one on the LCD screen,
other through the Matte Screen protector on the outside Glass.
Inside layer cuts the gloss on the LCD layer and colors are not washed out.
For the outside glass we are using specially designed matte covers which users at their end can decide to use or not.
Labs have officially announced the FCC clearance and will probably update the status on the FCC website either today or on Monday.
FCC submission didn't post until Jan 28th.
The screen is GLOSSY. End of story.
Jan 26, 2011 (post 89)
All next batches will have the updates pre-installed.
Our team will get in touch with all the individual customers and help them install the update, so there are no ‘bricking’ issues.
All the members of the NotionAddicts, NotionInkHacks, NotionInkFan and those who commented before 22nd of January WILL be the part of the next pre-order.
What next batches?
I post on Notion Hacks, Notion Addicts and Notion Fan. I never received any emails.
Jan 28, 2011 (post 90)
You need a 185 degree swivel function, and for that you need an assembly design which can ensure 20,000 usage cycles.
Will it work for at least that many? What's the expected lifetime for the entire tablet?
The second & third phase of shipments will start on time.
one of our shipments for the touch screens got damaged while transportation which is going to effect a fraction of our customers.
So were units shipped or not?
I know mine got delayed yet again.
Jan 30, 2011 (post 91)
Those who are in the later group (5.31%) are angry as I could see their comments and the emails.
Even though the damage was to a part of shipment, we canceled all because in such a case you cannot predict the defective and working screens manually.
Only 5.31% are affected by this latest problem? Not even close to being true.
Feb 9, 2011 (post 93)
Next Round of Orders,
The next round of orders have started and emails are being sent right now.
The list is HUGE and unlike last time we are not taking chances by sending all at the same time.
In case you think you should have received the link and haven’t post 11 Feb 11:55PM IST,
the link below will become active for you where you can register yourself.
What emails? I post and am registered on all three listed and never received any emails from any of them.
When I went to the "Register yourself" link it said it had expired. (Still does today 1 May 2011)
Feb 15, 2011 (post 95)
Harmony Weds Ventana
Now to the rest of the updates:
You can see that the shipments are in Progress now,
that means your device has been shipped from China to Hong Kong.
As soon as it reaches there, your status will be updated with the tracking numbers.
B.S. The NI Web site shows mine as shipped. TNT has no record. Status hasn't changed in over 43 Days.
Meanwhile congrats to the folks that ordered after me and have received their ADAMs. I'm jealous.
It's less than 500 miles from Xiamen to Hong Kong by truck. It doesn't take three to five days to cover that distance.
Mar 3, 2011 (Post 96)
And where the hell were we?
Support team strength = developer team strength.
As discussed earlier we have expanded our support team and now in fact it is bigger than the developer team.
There was a training need before their proper inception, and now that is also done. So expect better services.
(We have hired a top batch of iTunes’ support department.)
Streamlining the shipment process. You might have noticed emails from DHL, TNT and Gati on the shipment details.
We have streamlined the information process and these emails were sent as a part of this change.
Soon we are merging the 2 support systems (ours and shipment partners) so the request can be made to only to one of us.
So Forty Four days between shipped and delivered. Actual delivery time was four days.
No updates until I pinged support and received another email saying mine was held up (again) by Chinese Customs.
What does iTunes have to do with answering customer questions? Other than Apple are experts at distorting reality.
This could explain all of the "same" emails telling folks that "all" ADAMs have been released to the shippers and to wait
24, 36, 48, 72, soon hours.
Mar 29, 2011 (Post 97)
Breaking the Slience
First, to make sure that before you read this blog, every single product ever ordered is shipped.
If every item was shipped, why are folks on the BLOG still asking for the location of their ADAMs?
For the last batch we were able to get one more stop on the assembly line, clean the device and apply the screen guard.
Mine should have been from the "last batch" since it has a March 2011 build sticker. It didn't have the screen protector applied.
It was also missing my "promised" special present and I also didn't receive any "power adapter".
In a couple of days, Notion Ink will go live with its forum and next, live chats with the moderators and support staff will start.
The plan is to integrate the total customer and support system.
So using your login, you can check your order status, log into the forum, discuss live with the support staff, check your shipping status, etc.
This one end solution will help us to track the requests and make sure the ticketing system is optimized.
Using your "log in" you can check status. As long as you have a FACEBOOK account. If you don't "Sorry Charlie."
In addition during the two weeks the "Forum" has been operational it has crashed numerous times.
FYI the "Official Forum" is located at http://conclave.notionink.com
Also, from this Saturday, we will be starting the week-end specials. I have a few updates on the technology front.
Oh really? Look at the date of his next post below and do the math.
There is one special assurance for Adam owners. their devices will never get obsolete.
The OS will get continuous updates (recently we pushed one more) and UPGRADES.
Computer products by their very nature become obsolete the day you start using them. Something newer,
faster, more functional is always being developed. Nvidia has already announced the Tegra III and IV and V and VI...
Each being more powerful and faster than the preceeding model. Google is claiming that they won't allow
Honeycomb to be installed on any tablet with a screen resolution of less than 1280X800. Not sure how ADAM's
screen of 1024 X 600 fits into this "mandate".
We will continue our conversations in the week-end specials from now on.
One can only hope...
April 16, 2011 (Post 98)
Closer to the Blue
The design is more synchronized, more clean and useful.
You will see bunch of new applications along with the Book Promise.
The licensing agreements on 2 major areas (flash n book client) took a little longer, but are now on their way
When?
Master Card is also up (as might have noticed by some people already) since last 5 weeks.
Really? Since there are no ADAMs available for purchase how can anyone be sure that MC works now?
Not one comment on work being done to resolve the GPS and compass issues. Nothing on Honeycomb.
Nothing on why "official forum" users have to have a FACEBOOK account in order to participate.
No comments on instability, or battery issues. No update on repair activities. Lots of words and no content.
Looks like the Apple folks are at work.
April 30, 2011 (Post 99)
Kernel, Book Reader, New Browser, Gingerbread and much more.
We are going to push the next Major update to Eden. It will have:
the new e-book client
Why? I use Amazon Kindle and it works great. Shipped version of office can handle PDFs and DOCs. I’m good.
a new Browser (the name of the book client and browser will be released in a separate blog next week)
After struggling with forced closes and general flakiness of the shipped browser, I installed Opera Mobile (NOT MINI) and never looked back. Why reinvent the wheel? Opera works on every device I own. I have access to all of my bookmarks. It meets ACID3 testing.
updated Kernel
Providing what? Fixing what? Changelog please.
optimally over-clocked Tegra
Battery life sucks already and now you want to speed up an already fast processor. Doesn’t make sense.
Gingerbread 2.3
Yea so? List of benefits please.
lots of Usability Issues resolved
Hopefully the flaky compass, the GPS which won’t lock, the poor receive capability of the WiFi antenna, the constant refocusing and noisy clicky camera, Bluetooth issues, HDMI audio and output problems, inability to play 1080 videos, flaky power /sleep switch function, FM Radio, USB removal causing reboots, inability to scan the external sd card for media, etc…
new multi-tasking environment (easier way to manage all tabs and applications)
Easier than what? Without a "benchmark" claiming that something is easier is meaningless.
Chords Music Library and Player (Simple and straight Music Player)
Video Library and Player
DSP support, so now equalizer will work in better way. Soon we are adding more bass boost in the speakers as well (not a part of this update).
Or just install MixZing which provides all of that. I wish NI would concentrate on fixing the supplied apps and hardware and not worry about fixing things which can be replaced by already existing applications.
Flash pre-installed
That's what the WEB site states and yet mine didn't come with Flash. I had to locate and install it myself. I would rather be able to download and install after the fact to ensure replacement browsers are aware of the Flash. If you want to ship installed apps, how about Quadrant, GPS Status, Google Market, Lookout, etc..
(When I first started using Osmand it had a setting to check for GPS status. Unfortunately the GPS Status applicaion was not installed on the ADAM. I had to locate the APK file and install it myself.)
and more!
For example: “Promised” Weather app? Comic Book Program? A calculator that can multiply 142.15469*5 and come up with the correct answer, FM Radio, Genesis, color strips, a decent owners manual, ability to install Chrome or Ubuntu, Multi-boot, ability to load Outlook calendar and contacts via USB tether, NTFS read write, Longbox, etc?
you need to get the things right the first time and as I love to say, we are an impatient generation, and undeniably I am one too. But what has not changed about companies like us is our determination to succeed, to learn fast, understand the critics, and most importantly, to have a vision.
With Warm Regards
Rohan Shravan
Why no update on the “new” factory or "new" sales?
Why are only “FACEBOOK” users allowed to talk on the “official” forum "Conclave"?
If "Conclave" is the official forum, why is “official” support over on Notion Addicts?
Is FM radio the secret feature? If not what is?
Where is Genesis?
Will replacing the Ericsson 7703 with a Sierra Wireless 4G voice / data card when it becomes available this summer, work?
What happened to the "Number one fan" - Greg? Long time no hear and no posts on his site.
Why is the WEB site still so empty of actual data and real photos instead of renders?
What kind of response is NI going to give Engadget for their woeful review of the ADAM? 3 out of 10. Ouch.
Just more hot air form the minds at Notion Ink...

Kindle on Adam!
Today Notion Ink is extremely delighted to announce the collaboration with Amazon to make Kindle for Android available on our devices moving forward.
So what? Big deal. Kindle was one of the first applications I installed. Will have to wait for PO3 to see if it is really included in the ROM or not.
May 6, 2011 (post 101)
Adam to swim with Dolphin!
Today Notion Ink is extremely delighted to announce the collaboration with Dolphin Browser Team for their famous web browser “Dolphin Browser HD”. With it’s innovative design and powerful functionalities, Dolphin Browser enables the next generation browsing experience. You can find more details here: http://www.dolphin-browser.com/
It will come bundled with the next update all the existing Adam user will get due in the 3rd week of this month. This image will also be pre-installed on the devices ordered in the next round of orders which is about to start!
Rah. Use Opera Mobile, problems solved.
Let's see if a ROM update actually shows by May 23rd.
Some folks received email stating a new release was scheduled for May 7th. As of the 13th nothing new .
Latest news, Google released the source code for Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich. Rohan's comment, Let's start building...
So now "we" are supposed to modify the software to try and kludge together an operating system for ADAM. Yea right.
At least the folks over at TabletRoms will probably have something long before NI. Then again, what does ICS bring
to ADAM that 2.2 doesn't?
If you want to talk "dreams" take a look at this "concept"
My Rolltop
And that's the way it is... Personal observation / concern.
If Notion Ink doesn't clean up their act soon, they will end up like Eclipse Aviation, another "high tech" outfit out to revolutionize the world of aviation. They promised all sorts of economy of scale in the construction of a small twin jet aircraft. Only to have the price almost triple and a lot of the promised functionality never materialize. In two years they were bankrupt and out of business. They did manage to build about 260 planes and those owners are really happy with them. Not so much for all the prospective owners who watched their deposits vanish along with the company. At least NI sold more than 500 tablets based on the polls.
Pixel Qi Screen with and without Screen Protector.
This is what ADAM looks like after a few hours of use without the protective matte screen.

Lots of reflections and smears. So before applying the screen protector I cleaned the surface using alcohol and water solution and the LCD screen
cleaning cloth shipped with my HP Touchsmart computer. This is what the screen looked like after cleaning.

Here's what text on the screen looks like in PQ backlight off, full sun in Portrait. Application is Kindle for Android and the book is Sherlock Holmes...

Here's the same screen in Landscape mode.

Now when looking at the screen with your eyes, the stripes are not noticeable. This is an interference pattern created between the digital camera and the PQ screen.
When you apply the screen protector, there are two protective sheets. I removed the one on the bottom completely and wearing gloves applied it to the ADAM. This is what the screen looked like BEFORE removing the top protective sheet.

Notice the reflections and all of the scratches. Once you remove the top protector sheet this is what ADAM looks like.

So here's what it looks like side by side with and without the protector sheet.

I tried holding the ADAM with one hand while taking the photo with the other. I angled it to show maximum reflectivity.
On the left you can see the Sun and my curtains. On the right just a diffuse blob and no curtains.
Finally what the text looks like with the protector on. This text is from the Time Machine. Shot in Landscape..

And for an easier comparison, side by side.

Again, the interference patterns are due to the Digital camera and are not apparent to your eye.
I've noticed that the text appears slightly "softer" but still easy to read.
TFT Vs Transflective from 2002...

Sharp Zaurus SL-5000 (top) with a 3.5 inch 240 x 320 Px 65K color Transflective Display vs a TFT "Sunlight readable" (according to TomTom) display in full California sun.
The ADAM has a 262K color Pixel Qi transflective display. The Sharp cost $500 when new.
The TomTom Rider more than I paid for my ADAM. (almost by a factor of two) ;>

More than an Etch-A-Sketch
Here are spreadsheet screen captures of a comparison between Windows 7 and possible Windows 8 tablets for sale in the U.S.
These are "real" computers running Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit versions.
At least two of the units can have Linux installed and dual boot. All of them seamlessly interface with
"corporate" environments running M$ Outlook and "Office".
These are not consumption devices running a modified "telephone" operating system.
These devices are made to perform actual content creation and "office work".
In many cases these can substitute for netbook and laptop computers.
The tablets are sorted according to weight. Lightest to heaviest. If you know data for the missing cells (?) please let me know
so I can update this. e.g. multi-touch, how many fingers? two? five? ten? Display brightness in NITs.
If you know of any other tablets (windows or Linux and not convertible Laptops like the Panasonic Toughbooks) please let me know. (Leave me a URL)
I did not list every variation available. My office is concerned with TPM. I tried to list similar capabilities for the tablets with the prices
as seen on various web sites. Share and enjoy
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Wow, It's been one year since I got my ADAM, and It still works (more or less). I like the Pixel Qi screen as it works for what I purchased this tablet for.
The GPS will show my location and when using it with OSMAND it shows movement. The compass still sucks as does the camera. Best part...
TEMPLE RUN works really well. (At least well enough to get frustrated playing the game) Unfortunately ADAM is too big for my motorcycle tank bag,
and it doesn't run very long on its batteries before requiring a charge. If I was going to purchase a tablet today it would be a toss up between the ASUS eeeSlate Windows tablet or the Transformer Prime. Both which are heads and shoulders above the ADAM in both performance and price. (Well not the slate as it's almost $1300 for the "B" model. I got to play with one at Fry's Electronics last weekend. It's really nice.)
CX650T
Since we are talking about other areas of interest I thought I'd add in my 1983 Honda CX 650 Turbo motorcycle...

It goes from stop to Oh My God really fast...
New Blog
I jumped onto the ADAM bandwagon and created a blog on Wordpress
Help Ni Obi Wan. I post some observations there...
